howdy from Republic of Tejas, and me, and my silly boots

Welcome to the forums. I spend 3 years in Texas defending the Alamo. Be happy, get rich. There are now 562 or more millionaires in the Thrift Savings Plan.

Welcome pennywizer this is a good place to learn if you want to get your retirement plans in order.
Best of luck:D

pennywizer,

Congratulations on your registry - I got mine in 1975. It's an occupation that lends well to investing requiring the ability to be future oriented.

Weclome fellow Texan. Germany, ooohhh I so remember. Good times. Spent a few years back in the 80's, Army MP. Son is at Fort Hood, Infantry. Thank you for your service.

TSP, start early, contribute as much as you can, but at least 5% so you get the match, and try and increase your contribution untell you can get to the max. You sound to have many years to go tell retirement so you can take some risk, but be wise and have an exit strategy. This is a good site to learn.

I was a buy and holder for 20+ years. I rode the waves. Can't complain, but could have done much better if I had learned when to get out and when to get back in. I did it backwards, sold low, bought high.

Been in TSP 2 years, been perusing this site since late 2012, check it out daily, great site, when it comes to stock market I am Colonel Klink....."I know nothing."

Born in Manhattan.....Kansas!
Army, Infantry 4 years Germany/Desert Storm/Ft. Hood
G.I. bill: AA/TV-Radio broadcasting
worked in front of camera approx 2 years/behind camera in tv production 4 years.
City Govt/Special Events Coordinator (1year, 4mos!) too many chiefs (city council, micromanaging director, select few unhappy and very vocal citizens who had micromanaging director under thumb!). Best lesson in politics I have had to date (at city level, no less, I cant even imagine how sausage made from county level up to state and Fed)
Drove truck cross-country (reefer) then hauled high (mostly) high end cars coast to coast for a total of 2 years!
Realized my usually, somewhat controlled insanity was getting best of me on the road, Parked tractor n trailer.
Went back to school: earned A.A.S. in Respiratory Care/became Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Got some tattoos throughout journey.....to be continued, with decent returns as a somewhat "B&H'er" I hope! Although I do sometimes go against my better judgement just to spite meself.
