Howdy folks

...In the meantime I'm trying to understand the difference between the allocation settings for my TSP deposits vs. my current allocations. Does that make sense?

I just moved my present allocations to 60% L2040, 20% S, 20% C. However, my contributions are still set to 60% I, 20% S, 20% C. It seems like it would be safest to set the contribution allocations to the F fund, or something low risk, until you can move the money into your present picks.

Thoughts?
Based on your current distribution in your account, you sound like more of a buy and hold investor so you may not be making a lot of transfers. If that is the case, I would suggest keeping the "preset" and contribution allocations the same.

Buy and holders need to keep adding to their positions to get the max dollar cost averaging going (buying more shares at lower prices, and fewer at higher prices).

If you decide to do more market timing, then it won't matter as much because your entire balance gets re-allocated each time you make a transfer.

My apologies that this is posted in the wrong area,

My wounds were deep and painful -- but your apologies are helping them to heal and disappear.

For that I am ever grateful !!

I'm trying to understand the difference between the allocation settings for my TSP deposits vs. my current allocations. Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense -- but then some will listen -- really listen

some are perhaps -- how do we say -- ummm more in tune.

I just moved my present allocations to 60% L2040, 20% S, 20% C.

You must be exhausted !! That is like reallocating the entire U.S. Treasury.

However, my contributions are still set to 60% I, 20% S, 20% C.

Ahhhh a true Genius can't hide what God has given my friend. Somehow it will be evidenced -- and this demonstrates that.

De safest contribution is de G Fund -- yahh - G Fund is SAFE

Hmmmm my thoughts lean more towards the I Fund -- as I am the pilot of that FUND and look how I am doing !!!

Yah -- I talk as though I come from Germany -- Yah

You should do what you are most comfortable with my friend -- but I had thought you did have 60% I - 20 % S - 20% C as allocations --

Yah -- then you say -- hey everyone look at me -- I get richer and richer !!

Yah - and if you buy the same -- then all will gasp in awe....

and then you get very rich !!!! :D:D:cool:

Those are my thoughts -- Yah -- and life it tis good !!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

My apologies that this is posted in the wrong area, it'll be a while before I have this site dialed in. In the meantime I'm trying to understand the difference between the allocation settings for my TSP deposits vs. my current allocations. Does that make sense?

By the way, thanks very much for posting so much great stuff. I really enjoy learning from you all!

Currently diversified 20% C 20% S 60% I, per a recommendation from a financial advisor friend.

Recognizing that the collective wisdom here is far greater than what I possess, is there a way to mirror the best performers who post, or is that frowned upon?

It sounds like we could all learn as much from you -- as you could learn from any of us.

You are well diversified -- and many (if not most here) often put 100% in this or that. BUT -- it's cool and to each his/her own.

The 'Best Performers' - may vary quite a bit in how they invest - but if they use the AT - you can follow their moves.

The 'collective wisdom' as of late -- is by far the BEST and that's the Sentiment Survey -- of the masses ........

Anyway -- I hope ya the best of luck -- and it's great having you here.

Steady

churejita,

Welcome aboard. Definitely a good place to learn. I think at one time or another we have all tried to mirror someone on this board. Tough to do though. Good luck.

Hi All,

I've been looking around here for a few months now and am trying to get a better handle on how to use this site to maximize my TSP.

I'm two years into my career with the FAA, but I started a little late. 32 now, looking at retiring in my early 60's and expecting very good things from my investments.

Currently diversified 20% C 20% S 60% I, per a recommendation from a financial advisor friend.

I'll continue to read posts daily on this board, but what other advice do you have for someone of average intelligence with absolutely no investment experience?

Thanks very much!!
