Hi all,

Our divorce decree specifies a TSP transfer ... how long do these things typically take and do they typically encounter roadblocks. And if so ... what???

[[Don't hate me ... my dh left me and our child, and we're in very dire financial straits, and he has already been in contempt for playing around with this transfer, so ... just wondering if our home can be saved, etc.]]

First, there are two things you need to read:

First is this webpage:
https://www.tsp.gov/lifeevents/spouse/separation.shtml

Second is this booklet, which is published by the TSP about Court Orders:
https://www.tsp.gov/PDF/formspubs/tspbk11w.pdf

I am very sorry to hear of your breakup.

The court order must be VERY SPECIFICALLY WORDED in order to be valid- and the TSP won't pay until they verify it is complete and correct. See the booklet.

If they DO decide it is complete, correct, and valid, they usually disperse about 60 days later. See the booklet for details.

Good luck.

Nicely done Jim..very nice...:)

GM..I too am sorry for your troubled times..I don't wish a divorce or breakup on anyone..I hope you get your fair share of what you are entitled to....Stay strong..

I'm sorry to hear about your break up. From experience, it took around 60 days after the divorce for it to transfer.

I sent one to the TSP back in 2003, but it was kicked back. Instead of having it reworded, I worked out a settlement for twice the amount, but in exchange she couldn’t claim my TSP account or FERS retirement annuity. We refiled the court order to complete and it was really tough financially for me. I had to eat cornbread and beans for a couple years but we were both really happy with the settlement. Have a great day and I hope everything works out ok for you!

Hey Dearheart,

There is no way we could hate you -- gosh -- he left you and your child and I'm so sorry for the financial strains on top of that.

This kind of thing honestly infuriates me - I mean what the hell the child is his child too.

Since he has already been 'in comtempt' for playing around with this transfer -- honey -- the biggest hold up is probably him and your lawyer is going to have to seriously push him hard to make it happen soon.

I honestly don't know about 'saving your home' - because the TSP income may only tie you over for a few months.

Wish I could help - but I'd probably wind up hurting him.

Good Luck -- I mean I hope you the best -- and thanks for trusting us and opening up

Steady

thank everybody, can you believe I was afraid to read the replies thinking they'd be mean (some forums, you know, are kind of harsh!).

I guess it was December 6th that he said he was starting and now it's January 10th, so I probably still have time to wait. I called TSP and they said transfers take 2-3 weeks, but can take 2-3 months if paperwork isn't in order!

No I can NOT believe that -- not in the least little bit.

You're as sweet as can be and you're delightful too !!

You have a way of sharing your heart - that doesn't burder us down but makes us feel for you.

You look wonderful with the wind blowing your hair on a Spring day and you're just an overall wonderful lady.

So --- NO - -I can't believe that ---- hmmmmm unles

you thought none of us could tell just how special you really are.

I hope you the best !!

I freakin' LOVE this forum!

You are all so kind, my heart is happy being here.

I just posted in some "general" way, unintentionally, never sure if I should continue an old post or start anew.

thank you from the bottom of my heart (my freakin' breakin' heart)
