it would appear that the officers at work are doing some calculations
on their own. The additional year of credit may only be calculated at
1% after 20 years in law enforcement. That would equate to getting
1.7% for the first 20 years and 1 year at 1% for unused sick leave.
By my estimates, a gl-08 step 10 would make an additional $620 per
year in their 2010 fers pension. The calculation also included a 2.9%
increase in salary over the same time period to adjust for cost of
living increases.
The young pups are not finding these figures very motivating. Most
believe the $226.80 per day they get by burning s/l hours also will
pay back some additional dividends. More time for family, better
mental health through a long stressful career and more importantly,
more money in their pockets over the long haul. Even if they made
the calculations at 1.7%, i'd still have to live until i was 576 years
old to equal the benefit of using your leave now instead of saving it.
*i threw any old age in the mix off the top of my head, the point however, remains the same![]()
bingo!
