Military and contractors working in the middle east are tax free, but Goverment employees in the same areas are not.

I created a petition on whitehouse.gov, to give gov employees serving in the same areas the same benefit. Let's get this fixed!!

I spent many weeks in the ME over the past several years with a few Air Force programs for a specific oil-rich nation......it is amazing how often a Colonel or above will suddenly have to fly over for a meeting on the 30th of a month and return on the 2nd of the next month....and WHAM....2 months of tax free income since they spent a minimum of 4 hours 'on the ground' per month over there......We had one Colonel who in the 4 years I worked with them was over there AT LEAST once a month and never had any Federal Tax Debt for the entire 4 years, all was tax exempt....... But not so for civilian workers.....

I hope your petition catches on, but I doubt it since the Federal Worker is the most kicked around person in DC nowadays.....

Paul.

Contractors had to be there something like 330 days of the year or something to that effect in order to be tax free from what I recall.
I spent 6 months in SWA in 2012/2013 and paid plenty in taxes. Didn't bother me I guess, had a great job and a good group to be deployed with.
Not saying the petition is a bad idea by any means. Best of luck.
