Global stock rally pauses ahead of Fed decision
Global stocks struggled for momentum on Wednesday as traders hit the pause button ahead of the US central bank’s interest rate decision. In early trading in Asia-Pacific, Japan’s benchmark Topix was flat while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 edged higher by 0.2 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively. Overnight, Wall Street’s S&P 500 ended the session 0.7 per cent lower while Europe’s Stoxx 600 fell 1.2 per cent after weak German trade data raised concerns over the pace of the global economy’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
