Going to an airport and flying for me now is like a trip to the dentist.
And they charge for pillows and blankets now.
When I was kid we flew from Germany to New York on a Lockheed Constellation (do a Google if you don't know what that is.)
Took a PanAM 707 from Denver to Panama -we were served food on real plates. The "stewardess" wore a hat.
My father use to take me to Stapelton Airport in Denver in the 60's and we watch everyone board an airplane or jet up close. It was an adventure-the smoke-the noise
Flying to Rome back in August in 2004 from Honolulu I did a layover in Cincinnati. The flight was cramp, the food was lasagna and service was spotty. But they weren't charging for blankets yet.. Anyway I'm sitting in Cincinnati and out from this escalator came this formation of Air France pursers and flight attendants.
Took my breath away.
Everyone one of the female flight attendents was beautiful, slim, wore what look like an Hermes scarf and must have spent an hour putting on their make up. They looked spectacular-and I enjoyed the next half hour watching the French male purser briefing his charges on their duties. I'm not kidding-it took my breath away and it made me sad what a non-adventure flying is now. Uncomfortable and bland.
Like taking a public bus.
