Facebook's Initial Public Offering (IPO)

Personally I believe we will see a nice initial gain of the stock itself. As for it affecting the C or S funds I’m not too confident. In the long run who knows what to expect, will it compare to Google? They both make their majority of profit from advertisements…:suspicious:

FB has heaps and heaps of information. The information amassed has a value we can't even begin to comprehend. How many times has Google tried (and failed) to break into the social networking space? FB is a personal information empire. Personal information is THE high value product of the 21st century.

I'll be buying FB with the intention of holding for years. If it pops and drops I'll be buying drops. My concern is that the greater market will suffer as managers pull money from other vehicles to invest in FB. Keep an eye on AAPL, GOOG and maybe MSFT as those are likely "sell" candidates for anyone looking to raise money for FB purchases, may lead to good entry points. My $0.02

Thanks, though I'm not worried about it. To me this is the no brainer of the year. Honestly I hope lots of people don't recognize the true value because I want a cheap entry. FB is about way more than advertising, it's personal information. It's personal information for young Americans/Westerners, the most important demographic there is. There is nary a company in the world that doesn't want that information. It's a gold mine.

What am I missing here? When did selling people's personal information become legal? I agree with your statement about FB being way more than advertising, its personal information. However, we are talking about their revenue which is largely made by its advertising. There is no reasonable understanding of what advertisers are paying for.

Recent news states “FB hopes to price its stock at $28 to $35 a share and an initial public offering could value the company at as much as $96 billion.”

Information can be aggregated and disseminated into marketable research and demographic profiles without divulging any actual personally identifiable information. I suppose I should have worded more carefully. Tech companies need to predict what people will want in the future...all those "likes", posts, links, comments etc. can all be actionable for product developers. think research and development.

Anyway, do your own research etc. I know I am a buyer.
