First, I'd like to say, I hope all our TSPTalk members in AK are safe and no damage was caused by this extremely strong quake. I've experienced a few of those high magnitude quakes living in California. Not fun.
Living in Hawaii we are always getting earthquake notifications that could cause a tsunami to hit the islands. On the first day of the month at 11:45am HST the DEM test the tsunami warning sirens. Those sirens are LOUD ! If you are anywhere near the coast and unfamiliar with the regular testing schedule, the piercing sound of the sirens will make you jump 10 feet. The tourists freak out sometimes...
