Happened at the facility I work at. That this guy wasn't busted years ago is an indictment on the management here.

LONGMONT, Colo. -- A Colorado air traffic controller is under federal investigation, accused of being drunk while controlling live air traffic, the CALL7 Investigators have confirmed. On July 5, Federal Aviation Administration officials tested a veteran air traffic controller for alcohol, sources told CALL7 Investigator John Ferrugia. It was a random test. The controller was tested six and a half hours into his eight-hour shift and his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit, explained the sources.

I'm sure there will be excuses made for him..overworked, tired, didn't get is nap on shift, didn't get to see the firworks on the 4th because he had to work, etc..whatever, but it's never their fault..

Be nice. It is always their fault, they just never get blamed...

Why wouldn't you just call in sick if you were that drunk? Stupid :(

Arrogance.

Chances are he was drinking while at work. The guy's history is that for his 25 year career he has routinely smelled of alcohol. Management, who was trained in detecting employees with alcohol issues did nothing.

Well, management should be held responsible for neglect of duty! There are as much responsible for ignoring it. They should be fired as well! But, knowing FAA they will probably get relocated and promoted! FAA management is pitiful!

FAA isn't the only area that has problems. We had a guy here that had a drinking problem, he would go to his car once in awhile and take a shot or two a couple times a day. Supervision put him in a position where he couldn't hurt himself or anyone else. My son-in-law works for DFAS and he talks about one of the guys he works with that has a drinking problem.
