C fund vs S Fund

I am hearing suggestions that Large Cap is going to outperform Small cap this year. Wondering about what the implications to the TSP are.

Right now i'm in the S fund, mostly. I'm really not interested in chasing swings and dips, but I would like to be in whatever the best fund is, year to year.

Also, a little analysis of past prices shows that S fund is currently near an all time high relative to the C fund. This seems to suggest the C fund has some room to catch up with the S fund.

So, what does the more experienced crowd think, is this a year that the C fund could outperform the S fund?

Thanks.

It hasn't happened yet in eleven years - but every dog eventually has his day. When the C fund starts to outperform it will be gradual so many folks won't recognize the change and will continue to hold their favorite S fund.

Strates,

Play it both ways.:toung:

Why not put - say - 50% in C, 30% in S, 20% in I. Why guess???

You might have asked, but I promise not to tell:p

strates, I've read the same thing.

Hey Birch. It might be short lived but the 100% C fund folks are tops on the leaderboard.

It's easy to tell which is doing the best and you don't have to know the reasons why, small, medium, large Caps which will do the best? Hell just check the two charts at the bottom of the page on a daily basis it will be obvious. The "S" gets a buy signal today.
Works for me.:)

Birch can tell you that in a recovery the Small Caps (our S Fund) always recovers first, then the Large Caps (our C Fund) have their day. Trying to decide when to make the transition, for me, will be a matter of watching the trend lines.

Good luck to you,
Maggie

During the previous 2007-2009 bear market, both large & small caps traded down within the same ranges.

During the previous 2003-2007 bull market, small caps clearly outperformed. Small companies have more room for growth, while large companies can get stagnant.

Great information, J, as always! So if I watch the trendlines then I won't ever make the jump. <Ann gives thumb's up to her friend Jason>
