British bank Barclays confirmed on Friday that it had agreed to sell its BGI investment arm to U.S. firm BlackRock for $13.5 billion, creating the world's biggest asset manager.

BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) opened at $179.60. So far today, the stock has hit a low of $170.21 and a high of $180.00. BLK is now trading at $171.99, down $10.61 (-5.81%). Over the last 52 weeks the stock has ranged from a low of $88.91 to a high of $249.37. Standard & Poor's lowered its rating on BLK's counterparty credit to 'A+/A-1' from 'AA-/A-1+' this morning, citing concerns about the company's refinancing and integration risks after it acquired BGI from Barclays PLC (BCS). Technical indicators for the stock are bearish and S&P gives BLK a negative 2 STARS (out of 5) sell ranking.
