Beware: Very Malicious Virus

Sorry to hear that you got hit with the virus.

I recommend people with XP to backup their data files and do a clean system rebuild. I recommend this once a year regardless if they don't have a virus problem. It's amazing how much faster the machine runs after the system rebuilt, applications reinstalled and data files copied back.

agree 100%....time to fdisk and start over

Do you think SUPERAntiSpyware is better than some of the others such as Ad-Aware or Spybot? I clicked your link and then read other reviews. PC Mag's editor's review was luke-warm, but most of the reader's reviews were thumbs-ups.

A 5.5 MB download file installs the version you mentioned, (SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition 4.24.1004), and according to the reviews, the program is not a resource hog like some other similar programs. I been using Spybot for several years, but if you believe this program is better, I might try it. Thanks.

The main reason I used it was that I was searching for anything to fix my computer at the time. I tried all kinds of programs but this did fix my computer. I use norton360v.2 now. Check it out. You might be surprized how many things it will find wrong and fix that you don't even know that is wrong now. It is also very easy to uninstall.

CB, I have been hacked myself before. Last time it happen'd to me was about 1 year ago. The only thing that helped me get my computer fixed was this program. If I remember you can get this Free for 30 day's. I do suggest it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll save the link Poolman,

But after the final cleansing last night by Malware, my pc seemed back to normal this morning, but I'll feel better after a day or 2. Yesterday I couldn't move from the av2009 virus page and this morning before I left for work, I could move anywhere I wanted and nothing was popping up, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the suggestions gang. I appreciated them. :)

Sorry to hear about your predicament CB I've certainly been there more than once. I agree with Greg, and I rebuild all of my computers about every 6-12 months.

All my computers have their own personalities and they all eventually get bogged down and fragmented. There's nothing like giving them a fresh start.

Best of luck... JTH

System Restore function could possibly take care of it, if your are running XP. That's one fix I've used before to undo some minor spyware issues. According to some googled searches, AV2009 is described as such. You don't need to be "online" to do Sys Restore. Good luck.

Thanks budnipper,

I tried that at 8am and it didn't work. Still cleaning with malware.:(

Gang,
I use AVG 2008 for my anti virus program and got suckered into a supposed upgrade to AV2009. It looks like AVG2008 and is offered free, just like my past 3 years or so of AVG. You can google and find ways to remove it and they are very complex or don't work. I've been at this since 8 am this morning and my 3rd recommendation to remove this virus. It takes over your machine. It's insidius. I'll know if this attempt works in about 2 hours or so.

Thank goodness we had another laptop or I'd never be able to dwonload possible solutions to download or even google. This virus just locks you when you get online.
