When I first read this, I thought since I was not worth $69k at 39, thats not too bad. Then I realized that was a few years ago and equates to around $800 then. I probably didn’t have a net worth of $800 then but had a mortgage and military retirement pay coming. (I hoped, if I didn’t screw up real bad) So what Bullitt said, doesn’t look good depending on the situation of those 39 year olds.Pretty dire numbers here. Implications for population growth going forward as the idea of having children gets pushed further down the road. Also, implications for policy makers to employee more "stimulus" type subsidies.
I don't think "wiping" student debt is the answer. The heart of the problem is the cost of college and housing. I don't know how either can be solved, nor do I think there is any real incentive by policy makers.

I have no solution either. I know several people still paying student loans in to their 40s and several parents who are paying those loans. Choices for degree paths were not often so wise in the past.
