AutoTracker Standings 2023 (non-premium)

The Top Ten

Only twenty-three TSP Talk non-premium AutoTracker members are outperforming the C-fund this year. Buy and holding the C or S-fund has not been a bad strategy through 2023, but these twenty-three members have weaved through this year's market action doing their best to avoid losses and optimize their return for the year.

With only five trading days left this year, let's put the spotlight on the top 10 members who are fighting for the title of best TSP investor.

The current top ten as of 12/20/2023 are:

  1. Thetsai - +32.24%
  2. Yanni123 - +31.88%
  3. Radarvector - +31.72%
  4. BHRUNIKH - +30.99%
  5. ICEholes - +30.17%
  6. Pickles - +29.69%
  7. Milog - +29.58%
  8. Scrsvs - 28.82%
  9. Talking2jets - 27.91%
  10. Pokerstar629 - 27.75%

Some of these names we have seen at the top all year. We were distinguishing thetsai and talking2jets as top performers as early as February of this year. Now thetsai is trying to hold the top spot with just a week of trading left. They currently hold 100% S-fund while their closest contenders hold a mix of the S-fund and the C or I-fund as well.

The current top ten's average IFTs used this year is 18.4. That is about 1.5 IFT per month. However, two members in the top ten are pulling that average down with an impressive five and six IFTs made all year to reach to the top 10:

Sitting at number 3 in the TSP Talk AutoTracker standings, radarvector has accumulated a 31.72% gain for 2023 with just 5 IFTs made all year. Radarvector's fund of choice was not consistent. They held all the TSP funds with the exception of the F-fund this year in their five IFTs. Their most impressive timing came exiting stocks mid-summer before the market started its second half pull back, re-entered for a single day to catch a 0.6% bounce in the C-fund, took the gains, then re-entered 50% C and 50% S-fund in late October before the market's current winter rally.

scrsvs has accumulated a 28.82% return through 2023 and has done so with just 6 IFTs. This smooth market timer spent a collective four months of the year holding 100% G-fund, about six month holding 100% S-fund, and a two-month stint holding 50% C and 50% I-fund. Scrsvs currently holds 100% S-fund.

Who can outperform the S-fund this month?

The S-fund is up 9.84% for November as of 27th.

With only three days left for the month of November, only two non-premium TSP Talk AutoTracker members have a better return for the month than the S-fund:

milog (10.10%) and bjean (9.87%) are the frontrunners to be the November AutoTracker Winners.

Both members have used 2 IFTs already this month so their only available move would be to the G-fund. Milog currently holds the number one position in the monthly standings, and currently holds 100% S-fund. Holding the fund will guarantee them to outperform the fund.

However, in second place is bjean who is beating the S-fund by just 0.03% higher November return while holding 30% C-fund and 70% S-fund. Holding their position will not guarantee them finishing the month above the S-fund. However, if the C-fund outperforms the S-fund enough over the next few days, they could steal the top position.

But there are others floating just below the 100 November S-fund holders who also hold some C-fund or even the I-fund. It would not take much from the C-fund for some of these members to move to the top positions of the list, above the S-fund, before the new month begins.

For a moment, the top eleven members in the AutoTracker were all out of stocks. Almost all eleven were holding 100% G-fund, with a couple members holding some F-fund (bonds) as well.

That ended today though when two of them moved to the C-fund. The first among the tip of our investment community to get back into stocks in this sharp downturn and both choose to go 100% C-fund.

More than two weeks since our last look at the TSP Talk AutoTracker standings and the top three members still hold their ground. Talking2jets and thetsai continue to battle over the crown. The number one position is currently held by talking2jets, but that was not the case this morning. A 1.16% loss in the C-fund today (5/2) drove thetsai off the top of the hill giving it up to talking2jets who moved out of stocks and into the G-fund on Friday.

Top 50 members are invested in the G-fund (37%) more than the other four funds. G-fund holdings have increased from 17% to 37% in a little more than two week, a bearish shift for the top performers. The I-fund comes in next in popularity holding 35% of allocations but this is a decrease from 44% in that same time period. The best performers are not invested in the S-fund (4%) nor the F-fund (2%).

Like mussels to a rock, only five TSP Talk AutoTracker members have stuck with the I-fund all year to land them a tie for 17th in the non-premium standings. At the bottom of the top 50 cling the buy and holders of the C-fund.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets (+18.94), 2) thetsai (+18.03%), 3) djlc86 (+16.76%)

The race for the best 2023 return is tightening up. Talking2Jets lost their number one position momentarily this last week but reclaimed it thanks to a loss in the C-fund (thetsai is currently 100% C-fund). Now all three are fully invested in stocks, 2 of 3 are holding 100% I-fund.

The I-fund has risen in the TSP Talk AutoTracker standings from 23rd last week to 19th after yesterday's action. Allocations in the I-fund among top 50 members has risen from 38% to 44% in the last week. The Top 50 have generally become more bullish, the G-fund average G-fund allocations dropped from 19% to 17%.

Stocks are on track for more gains today so the bullish top performers' returns will likely be padded.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets (+17.62) , 2) thetsai (+17.18%), 3) djlc86 (+16.40%)

The top 50 members in the non-premium standings continue to get more bullish, but there was a serious rotation out of the S-fund in the last week. During our post in this thread last week, 30% of allocations among the top 50 were in the S-fund. In a week's time that has fallen to just 13%. Members may have left the S-fund this week but they were not exiting stocks. G-fund allocations among the top 50 also fell since last week from 28% to 19%

The I-fund was the major recipient of the fund rotation. In the last week the I-fund allocation among top 50 members rose from 23% to 38%. The I-fund itself has risen from 35th to 23rd in the top 50 non-premium standings.

The top three members remain the same from last week.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets (+17.54) , 2) thetsai (+17.11%), 3) djlc86 (+14.95%)

The top performers in the TSP Talk AutoTracker members are getting more bullish since our last look into the standings on March 22nd. This can be attributed to two factors: firstly, several top 50 members have shifted their investments into the stock market; secondly, there has been a rotation of stockholders into the top 50 replacing a few underinvested during the last week of gains.

On March 22nd, 24 of the top 50 held 100% G-fund. In the current standings, only 13 of the top 50 now hold 100% G-fund.

There are eight new names in the top 50 (non-premium) since March 22nd. All eight of them are 100% invested in stocks and the best 2023 return among them (ctrflee, +7.15%) has reached 30th in the non-premium standings.

The top three members remain the same from last week but with the 2 or 3 positions flipping.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets (+16.84) , 2) thetsai (+15.87%), 3) djlc86 (+15.01%)

All three members are fully invested in a TSP stock fund.

We have some usual suspects at the top of the TSP Talk non-premium AutoTracker this week. Holding the top position in the standings is talking2jets who has been able to remain in the top 3 each time we've done these roll calls on the standings starting in early February.

Stocks have been quite volatile since our last check in on March 12th. The top performers have been taking opportunities. The best trade since March 12th has come from ICEholes who bought the I-fund on the 15th, its most recent low, and still holds it today. That gave ICEholes a 3.27% gain in that time and lifted them from 32nd place (March 12th) to 9th place in the non-premium standings.

Down from 17, 11 of the top 20 members currently holding 100% G-fund.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets (+13.61) , 2) djlc86 (+13.00%), 3) thetsai (+12.66%)

The top three all hold different TSP funds. talking2jets holds the G-fund, djlc86 holds the I-fund, and thetsai holds the C-fund.

The TSP Talk AutoTracker Standings underwent a sudden rearrangement this last week. All three stock funds fell into negative territory for the week but it was the preferred fund S-fund that took the greatest loss (-8.16%) and brought down some the of the top performers with it. The S-fund itself dropped from sitting at 14th place on Wednesday, to now sitting at 116 overall and being outperformed for the year by the I-fund. The I-fund is in the top 50 sitting at 39 overall among the non-premium members.

One thing that didn't not change was the 1st place holder talking2jets who escaped this last week's loss with a 100% G-fund allocation. Talking2jets moved to the G-fund on Monday to show off some impressive market timing and leads the TSP Talk pack with a 2023 return of 13.45%.

Now, including talking2jets, 17 of the top 20 members are currently holding 100% G-fund. The three members who are not in 100% G-fund happen to be in the top ten. Two of which jumped into a stock fund late this week to a lower buy in. Most impressive was the number nine member BigBully who jumped into 100% S-fund at Friday's closing price; good luck with that trade.

The top three remain familiar names we've seen on this thread:

The top three now are 1) talking2jets , 2) Beans27, 3) thetsai

Thetsai
is currently 100% C-fund, the other two are in 100% G-fund.

The three members with the best 2023 return currently hold different allocations.

The S-fund has dropped 0.43% in the first six days of March. In that time, the top performer in the TSP Talk AutoTracker standings talking2jets has gained 0.72%. Talking2jets moved out the S-fund this Monday to miss the S-fund losses on Tuesday.

The next best performer this week is the second place holder in 2023 non-premium standings djlc86 who is the only top 10 member to hold the C-fund in that time.

The previous number one member netforcer has moved down to third while they hold the S-fund.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets
, 2) djlc86, 3) netforcer

The S-fund and those who have been in 100% S-fund all year have fallen to 14th overall in the standings.

Not much has changed over the last week in the TSP Talk AutoTracker non-premium standings. Talking2jets and netforcer both still hold the top two spots and are neck and neck for best return. The S-fund has dropped slightly to 13th overall and thetsai has reclaimed third place.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets , 2) netforcer, 3) thetsai

It took some maneuvering to pull a positive return out of February, and that is what eleven of the top twelve in the standings did. All of them used at least one IFT in February, nine of them used at least 2 IFTs in February.

The S-fund prevails, along with the 98 non-premium members that have held onto 100% S-day through 2023.

That puts them tied for 11th overall in the non-premium standings.

Sitting at the top is talking2jets who has been maintaining a top 4 spot through February. Thier 12.89% gain in less than two months is the best return in TSP Talk, but not by much. The current second place holder, and previous number one member, netforcer is not far behind with their 2023 return of 12.82%. Both members currently hold 100% S-fund. Six other top ten members currently hold 100% G-fund, ready to move up in the standings if the S-fund resumes its pull back.

The top three now are 1) talking2jets , 2) netforcer, 3) Bean27

A new name joins the top three above the S-fund. Djlc86 has jumped to second place in TSP Talk AutoTracker standings. Djlc86 was tied with the S-fund in third place with 98 other non-premium members, but recently left the S-fund to move to the I-fund. The move has paid off so far and djlc86 has distinguished themselves from the crowd, but how long can the new name last?

The top three now are 1) netforcer, 2) djlc86, 3) talking2jets, followed by the S-fund.

All but one of the top 103 non-premium members are currently holding 100% S-fund. The outlier is thetsai who has not held 100% S-fund yet this year, yet is currently outperforming the fund. Thetsai jumped from 104th to 3rd overall in the standings.

Talking2jets reclaims the second place position.

The top three now are 1) netforcer, 2) talking2jets 3)thetsai, followed by the S-fund.

*wwiggin2002 dropped back below the S-fund crew landing them at a current rank of 106.

A new member joins the ranks at the top. Wwiggin2002 jumped from 137th in the non-premium standings to 2nd place after the S-fund and all its loyal followers lost 2.6% over the two previous days (and is on track to add to those losses today).

The top three now are 1) netforcer, 2) wwiggin2002, 3) talking2jets, followed by the S-fund.

We are five and a half weeks into the New Year and the TSP Talk AutoTracker top performer has a return of 13.86%. Netforcer has claimed the top of the AutoTracker standings but the race is tight at the top; Netforcer was in second place yesterday. Currently 100% in the G-fund and shielded from today's losses, Netforcer took the number one position from talking2jets. Talking2jets came into today at the top of the list with a return of 13.86% but held 100% of the S-fund which suffered a loss of 1.21% today bringing talking2jet's 2023 return to 12.48%.

In third place we have 100 non-premium members who have been exposed to 100% S-fund for the whole year. The fund has a return of 12.06% of the year. Both Netforcer and talking2jets started out in that group who were fully committed to the S-fund to start the year, but both have made one IFT since them that has stood them out from the pack.
