August Contest In Progress

Those at the top of the TSP Talk August AutoTracker standings moved into stocks after the sell-off last Monday or later and stayed for the Thursday rally.

The top two members, silver2828 and goforit, were quick to take profits and to take a seat in the G-fund for the rest of the month.

Silver2828 moved to 100% G-fund Friday locking in a gain of over 3% for the month.

Goforit is leaving the C-fund for the G-fund today but is at the mercy of the S&P 500 closing price to see where they settle for the month.

After sitting in the G-fund through this whole week, Silver2828 still holds the best return for August 3.18%. Their former 100% C-fund allocation they left last Friday would have added to their return this week, but they were not rolling the dice on economic data.

Some who have held stocks this week have climbed over goforit who moved to the G-fund on Monday. IF today's gains hold up, we will see these stockholders take over Silver2828's number one position as well.

If the stock rally holds today, Viettim would likely be the new August leader, they are the only member in the top five that is fully exposed to stock funds.

There are nine members, including me, tommyiv, who are beating all of the TSP funds for the month. My return for August is blocked on the AutoTracker page because I run a Premium Service, The Last Look Report, but my August return is 1.84% and I currently hold 50% C and 50% S-fund.

Through yesterday, only 32 members of the TSP Talk AutoTracker have an August return over 1%. Today's rally may grow that number.

As we expected yesterday, Viettim has taken over as with the best return through August.

Yesterday's rally pushed nine members above silver2828, the previous best return holder. That includes me, tommyiv. My 50% C and 50% S-fund allocation pushed me to the fourth best return in August so far. However, before yesterday's deadline I took profits and left only 15% in each of the C and S-funds.

Seven of these top 10 return are diversified across the stock funds. Only two members hold only one stock fund. This is unusual for this list where some members typically ride the success of a single TSP fund over the others.

Stocks have gone quiet today following the rally. The morning action is not straying far from yesterday's closing prices.

Current Top Five

Viettim is up 7.2% for the month through Friday after using only one IFT. Viettim holds a mix of the C and S-fund.

BigBully is up 6.8% for August but has used their second IFT to move to 100% F-fund. If bonds can outperform stocks in this last week, then BigBully has a chance to take the number one spot and prize.

BorderBlade is in third with a 6.37% August return with a 100% S-fund allocation. BorderBlade is also in the top 100 of the 2024 TSP Talk AutoTracker standings and was a Monthly AutoTracker Contest winner in May.

coyboyaug4 also has a 6.37% August return while holding 100% S-fund. coyboyaug4 made it to the number three spot in the 2024 TSP AutoTracker standings last week and was a Monthly AutoTracker Contest winner in January.

papahotel6 holds a 6.26% August return with a 40% C-fund and 60% S-fund allocation.





We have a week left so this list can change as the market changes. S-fund holders had the advantage last week and they have the advantage so far today as the DWCPF (S-fund) remains close to even for the day while the S&P 500 (C-fund) is down more than 0.3% at the TSP trade deadline.

The ETF BND (F-fund) is down 0.1% at the TSP trade deadline.

BigBully has taken over the number one spot in the August AutoTracker Contest with two days remaining.

BigBully moved from the S-fund to the F-fund on Friday 8/23 avoiding 1.36% loss of the S-fund so far this week. The F-fund is down 0.12% for the week.

The race is tight to make into top 5 for the month.

Six of the current top ten hold 100% stock fund allocations.

These ten include three top 100 members of the 2024 TSP Talk AutoTracker Standings (BarbS (74), Cash_Money (3), and JinJu (77)).
