Asia-Pacific stocks wobbled on Friday following poor showings by the region’s manufacturers and after US-China trade talks in Washington concluded with US president Donald Trump suggesting he will meet Chinese president Xi Jinping to hash out the more contentious points. Robert Lighthizer, the US trade representative, said he and Steven Mnuchin, the US Treasury secretary, were considering a trip to Beijing after the lunar new year holiday to resume negotiations. Robert Carnell, economist with ING, said he remained sceptical on how genuine any eventual commitments will be.
