Asia-Pacific stocks fall ahead of Fed decision
Stock markets in Asia-Pacific dipped on Wednesday following a slight fall on Wall Street as investors wait for the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision later in the day. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index slipped 0.5 per cent as pharmaceutical and technology stocks fell, while China’s CSI 300 was down 0.6 per cent. Japan’s Topix edged up 0.1 per cent, holding at an 11-month high, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.8 per cent as the basic materials sector dropped 1.1 per cent. The US central bank is expected to make a third consecutive cut to its benchmark interest rate on Wednesday with 95 per cent of economists polled by Bloomberg forecasting a 25 basis point cut.
