7.5 million Americans leave ‘free’ retirement plan money on the table, survey finds

KEY POINTS

More than 1 in 10 working Americans don’t contribute enough to their workplace retirement plan to get the full company match.

An employer match is often referred to as “free money,” but it’s really part of your compensation package.

17% of workers with access to an employer-sponsored plan don’t currently contribute. And among those who do, 12%, or 17.5 million people, leave company matching funds on the table, according to a recent survey by MagnifyMoney.

When my one son-in-law started working for DEFAS in late 2019 I talked to him about maxing out his TSP so he would get the maximum matching funds. He actually listened to me. :D
