Am I missing something?

i learned quick to tell the wife to check her email for this. as soon as i make a request for money from tsp, i call her. tsp has been quick to ask for spousal approval. gotta keep the wife in the loop, she waits too long its lost in cyber world

So. 3/29, in the afternoon, she “finds” the missing email, and clicks on it. It’s expired. A new one is requested- it shows back up immediately, but of course, now it’s after 5 pm on a Friday. Will be received next business day.

and is processed Monday 4/01.

Monday night, I get an email saying money will be taken out the next day.

Money taken out 4/2.

It hits my bank on 4/3 at 4 in the afternoon, and reconciles as “available “ on 4/4.

So the lesson is: Money is at my bank 4 business days after she clicks the “spouse says it’s ok” button.

Now I’m broke again. Paid the car payment and the car insurance payment. Got the bills all paid- but I just have a little to play with now, not the nice big chunk I was thinking I would be playing with.

The Buick Evision drives nice. She let me drive it twice. It’s got waaaay too many computer controls though. At least I figured out the radio and AWD. The “auto lane holding” is still giving me a challenge, however. I don’t know if I will like that.

Update:

(Frustration level ).

Guys- it took FOUR attempts before I could get my wife to actually to a search of her email.

I’m gonna go get some beer.

I could go DEEP into some wife shaming, and she could return the favor, no doubt, but let’s just say I feel your pain.

Update:

(Frustration level ).

So today, after still nothing happening, I again said to my spouse: “ Here, let me see your email, because I know they had to have sent you an authorization email when I asked for the money on March 16th.”

And she says: “I told you, they haven’t sent me anything.”

And I say- “so let me see the file folder then. Let me check your email and spam folder because it’s Theta be there someplace.”

And about five seconds pass..
And clicks o it.

Mind you it’s been in her f’ng inbox since March 16, and I’ve asked her THREE times previously to check.

And then she says- “Ah, it says it’s expired and they have to send a new one.”

Click.

Guess what- ten seconds later the new one shows up.

Click - “authorize”.

Ok- it’s fixed.

I retired 12-22. I have not taken a regular monthly partial payment yet but I have made a couple One-time distributions. Each time they would send an email to my wife and she had to approve the withdrawal. The first time she didn't do this right away and it showed pending for a few days. As I recall, some of the email addresses got dumped after they changed over to the new - and not so improved - site and I think we had to go in and re-enter them. Maybe that's the hang up?

Also, I called them a couple times shortly after I retired. I rolled most of my account over to a Schwab IRA. When I initially put the request in to move the money, it did not give me the option of a monthly partial withdrawal. The other choices were there but a partial monthly withdrawal was not. At the time I thought we would need some of the funds but I got a rather large leave check so we just used that to supplement our monthly pension. When I called them about the lack of a partial monthly option the lady I talked to told me because my balance was so high I would have to take huge monthly withdrawals.(???) She also told me I would be subject to a large penalty because I was not 59 1/2. I'm retired ATC so we are exempt from the penalty on TSP withdrawals because they force us out at 56. I explained this to her and she knew nothing about the exemptions for ATC, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, etc. I explained to her the situation and she insisted there were no exceptions to the penalty. When I pressed her on the monthly withdrawal option not being there it sounded like she asked someone else in the background and she told me that option was "broken" on the web site and would be available the next week. All that to say you may have spoken to someone that didn't know what they were talking about and they just blew you off until you called back and talked to someone different next week. I hope that's not the case but the new TSP provider is awful. They have gotten some better but still have a failing grade in my opinion. Good luck and let us know how this resolves...PH

Give it a couple of days.

Since the 16th was a Saturday, it probably wasn't processed until Monday the 18th. I would say by tomorrow, but that's a holiday, so if not today, Monday the 1st?

Even if that is correct, you're right. That's not progress.

Additional note- when I submitted my request for one-time partial withdrawal , it asked me to confirm my spouses email for consent reasons. I confirmed the address. But she never received any email from TSP. As a wife, she has to approve the withdrawl. They had no idea what I was talking about, and said to call back in a week. Did I just get a poorly trained employee who doesn’t understand how it works?

So- to start with, I’m retired. Have been for two years now.

I’m taking a monthly partial payment from TSP. It’s $3k per month, on a monthly recurring basis. It comes out of the account on the 15th of the month, and it hits my bank usually two or three days later.

This month, I wanted to take a. $10k lump sum one time addition as withdrawl. Buying a new Buick. I intend to keep the $3 k monthly continuing.

I did the request for the 10k as a partial payment, and got an email confirmation on March 16 that my request was submitted.

But since then… nothing.

It still shows “pending” but no other info is available.

Now I am thinking I may have to wait until next month, on the 15th of the month, before it will be paid out. I thought it would be like a few days, not a month.

Am I missing something?

I tried calling, and they were less than helpful. They said - “give it another week, and if nothing happens, call us back again”.

And “We see it, it’s pending. The only thing we could do now is cancel it, and start off bed we again with a new request”.

Well, I don’t understand how useless the software is now. It’s like moving 30 backwards in time. Has anybody law had this kind of issue with delays in getting your money out?
