allocation: S versus C

Why S rather than C?
Welcome MohammadXX!

Small and mid-cap stocks are more volatile in that they will move more, up or down, as the market swings. I am very bullish right now so I think we'll get more bang for the buck out of the S. Of course in the short term anything can happen, but with interest rates still very low, high growth small companies should benefit most.

Tom, thanks for the response. When you change allocations, I'm always interested in your reasons for choosing the next fund.

When I'm optimistic, I generally lean toward the C fund andam wary of the S& I.

I don"t want to miss the boat, but I'm leery ofpotential large losses inS &I because it takes forever to recoup. (e.g. 2002)

October data:

C fund is up $0.38 off its October low of $11.62 (+3.27%).

S fund hit $13.24, up $0.40 from its low of $12.84 (+3.12%).

C did better, Tom. Nyah nyah nyah. :^

I guessI better not quit my day job.

3%... not bad.A lot of folks here were dreading October. And that followed a 4% September.

Well, that only assumes that you bought in on the lows.

Charting the prices from Oct 1 through the 29th, you get this:

C fund: no change

S fund: +0.04

I fund: +0.35

F fund: +0.12

G fund: +0.04

I'm very glad that I made a move when I did, otherwise I'd be flat on the month rather than ahead. :D

Since we are rather active investors, the monthly return isn't all thatmeaningful.

Most important numbers (since my last move):

C up $0.29

S up $0.33
