My daughter, a Commercial Interior Designer, lost her job 2 years ago at a rather large design firm on the West Coast, and until very recently had been out of work.
She bumped into someone she knew who is associated with an even larger firm, and was asked to submit her portfolio, and schedule an interview.
I won't bother you all with the details of the interview except to say that she was informed that the position(s) avail would be full time, and not soley assoicated with a particular project where upon completion she would be layed off, which is a prevelent occurance in this particular industry.
This company has so much work now that they are hiring full time because they cannot keep up.
I consider that a bit of a positive for those of us willing to risk it all in the stock markets.
