The S&P 500 has risen in each of the last five months, during a typically challenging midterm-election year, no less. This string of uninterrupted gains was seen in only one other midterm election year. In 1958 the S&P 500 was also up from April through August, and then gained an average 3.7% in the final four months of the year, with each of the remaining months posting positive performances.
