Old news, but still good news..Does anyone know what the numbers are at now?

Retirees Eye 3.5 Percent Raise!
Things are looking up, at long last, for retirees.
With long-dormant inflation suddenly on the rise, federal, military and Social Security retirees are looking at a possible January cost of living adjustment of 3.5 percent. And if living costs continue to climb, the raise could be even bigger....

Oh, goody goody, I wonder how much active fed workers will get?

I'm confused as to your reply...You do understand that most retirees and you'll be one someday (maybe)..worked for almost 2/3 of their lives for their Country and Government as a civil servant..I put in over 36 years myself and I know most did a lot longer..The past two years while the Active Feds got a raise in January, the Retirees got nothing, zip, ziltch, nada, goose egg..So what I am confused about, is that your reply implies that you would not want the retirees to get anything again for a 3rd year in a row, while the Active Employee's pay is frozen, but it wasn't an issue when it was the other way around...is that what I'm reading into this?

You are suggesting I pay someone else's freight, and blindly trust that someone will later pay mine.

That doesn't seem like such a good deal to me, given the track record of the critters that borrow all of our money meanwhile.

I have no control over what promises you bought.

But I do have a say in what I buy with mine.

You think I'm bad? You should fear the next generation, they're not afraid of anything.

And right at our heels.

It is truely too sad that there is a growing minority of Malcontents and begrudgers such as yourself, would rather b!tch and complain about how bad they got it and not try to improve themselves first.. that since they are incapable of finding a better job in the private market (because no employer would want your lazy asses), they'd rather suck the life out of this employer and complain and begrudge the folks that did an honest 30+ years...Kids like you need to have walked a mile in our shoes before you start whinning about what is fair..

I know that sounds harsh, but consider the alternative, it's best we just restructure right now. Well, November will be soon enough.

Before they bend us over and put it to us for three years like Greece.

I mean if you're gonna get bent over in public, and we are, then who wouldn't want it over sooner?

thank you for the opportunity sir, could i please walk that mile uphill? in the snow? and both ways too? while you drive by in your hummer? or maybe a jag?

boo f'n hoo.

Your self pity problem is obvious..must you always refer to materialistic gains of others with such envy when you have no substantial ground to stand on?...while you continue to show that narrow minded, selfish attitude is only going to lead to your own demise, but I'm sure you'll justify blaming someone else for your own failures in life...sad:(

I retired this year and will have my first full retirement check soon (finally!). Do I have to wait the full year before I qualify for the cola?

To the best of my knowledge there is no waiting period. If you retired in 2011 and there is a COLA in 2012 you should get it.

If you two can not play nice I will close the sandbox.

You will get one but it is prorated. So if you just retired in you would get 3/12 of the amount.

If you're fers and the rate is 3.5 we will get 2.5%

I hate to be the one to break the news to you Buster, but you're gonna get means tested.
What, you have some soothsayer powers now..Why don’t you predict the lottery so we don't have to listen anymore to your jealousy and nonsense.

Can the Boomers quit acting like they have some sort of moral high ground to stand on in this discussion? Thanks.

BTW, you'll get all you want. Just stay out of the way as your kids and grandkids fix the mess.

I'm not a Baby Boomer, I'm a year too old for that. So far it's been 2 years of retirement and no COLA, but of course there was no inflation. My last year of work we only got a locality raise that was 1% in three years. I used to make up for things like this by working Overtime but just can't do that now. I'm on a fixed income but I'm doing OK, some of my friends are really getting hurt by this thing but I guess those Old Stupid Blood Suckers should just shut their damn mouths and accept what the Teenagers want to do to fix this thing because they are much wiser than older folks.
