SUBJECT: Calendar Year (CY) 2012 Privately Owned Vehicle Mileage Reimbursement Rates

1. What is the purpose of this bulletin?

To inform the Federal community that the General Services Administration’s (GSA) annual privately owned vehicle (POV) mileage reimbursement rate review, conducted pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 5707, has resulted in no rate changes for the use of privately owned automobiles (POA), POA5 when Government owned automobiles (GOA) are authorized, privately owned airplanes, and privately owned motorcycles for official purposes.

2. What are the CY 2012 POV mileage reimbursement rates?

a. Pursuant to FTR § 301-10.303, the POA rate will remain $0.51, the privately owned airplane rate will remain $1.29, and the privately owned motorcycle rate will remain $0.48.
b. Pursuant to FTR § 301-10.310, the POA rate when a GOA is authorized will remain $0.19.

3. What is the effective date of this bulletin?

This bulletin is effective upon the date of publication and applies to travel performed on or after January 1, 2012, through December 31, 2012.

4. What is the background of this bulletin?

This bulletin is part of the procedure for updating POV mileage reimbursement rates, as described in FTR Amendment 2010-07 (75 FR 72965, Nov. 29, 2010). As there are no updates at this time, this bulletin is informational only. Once published on the GSA website, this bulletin establishes the POV mileage reimbursement rates for CY 2012 prescribed by GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy (OGP).

5. What is the next step?

GSA will continue to monitor these costs on a monthly basis and will adjust the rate, if warranted. Any adjustments will be posted in the Federal Register and posted as a bulletin on GSA’s website(www.gsa.gov/ftrbulletins) and on our POV Mileage Reimbursement Rate web site (www.gsa.gov/mileage).
