Its pretty sad that anything that involves helping people or animals (Social Workers, Teachers, Physical Trainers, Veterinarians, Zoologist) pays so little.

Society, a.k.a, the free market, has decided that those workers--teachers in particular--are not as desired as a pro level athlete, usually. Ergo, potential, high quality teachers are more likely to take their intellect and choose a more lucrative career. Ergo, we have lower quality education than we could have. Ergo, I tend to blame our educational system for many of our society's problems. Just read the news...evidence is everywhere to some of us. (It's not just 'some' teachers...it's the whole system.)

Some like to personally attack me for saying that...I guess they believe there's nothing wrong with our educational system. I don't waste time providing evidence that our educational system is broken...they are the evidence and therefore, wouldn't understand anyway.

Has a lot to do with the residents willingness to spend money on education, at least on a local level. I know the border of Wilmington, DE and Delaware Count, PA has a pretty significant difference in property values and taxes. You could buy a house significantly cheaper in Wilmington, but there is evidently significant amount of people that are willing to pay for the opportunity to send their kids to better schools on the PA side.

I agree, this happens on the local level. Problem is: these scenarios are in the minority. So at election time, the majority of the population didn't receive the quality education like you suggest in your example.
