    Who is Retiring, or Retired?

I understnad your AA choice. I am 55 and expect to retire in the next year or two. My current TSP AA is 85% L 2020, 5% S & 10% I. The idea is to reduce the holding in F as well as increase international & small cap. G is a nice fund but I figure a CSRS pension makes up for a lot of bonds. When I...

    Mutual Fund Equivilants

G Fund Equivalent? I searched around and never found funds that were exactly like the TSP funds although the Vanguard index funds come close for C and S. But I find the G fund the hardest to find an equivalent, is this want you use VSGBX for?

    Who is Retiring, or Retired?

As the original poster asked, how has your progress to or in retirement changed your asset allocation or other financial plans? I am 55 and expect to retire in the next two years. Over the last two years I have increased my G Fund and put my new contributions in the L 2020 Fund. For 15+ years I...

    Kingdom Retirement [Chapter 1 Planning]

Market Bullish Spaf, If I read this correctly you believe the market is bullish but you are 100% in G? I hold some 40% in G as I am 55 and don't want too much volitility but 100% is so conservative that I would not go there unless I were expecting a bear market at or near depression levels.

Been A Tough Decade For TSPers

Shares + Price The number of shares AND their price are both important. Buying shares when they are "dog low" is a good thing, its a little less pleasant if you watch shares you already purchased go down. DCAing over a long period of time can work well but you have to watch your fund go down...

    Middle Class Holding Cash?

Only A Few Of Us I think that increased savings and specificly increases in cash depend on our age and place in the employment cycle. Young folks starting out anre commonly not saving at all. Its nice that I can save. Now folks way up the finance chain like Warren Buffett are holding large...

    L-Funds the way to go?

Keep Working If there is a 3 std loss before I actually retire I would just keep working. If I can accumulate funds from that very low level it will play out well financially over time. But if its after I retire I'm scr#w#D.

    C Fund Link

Well, I'm not much for market timing but if you have a strong sense that there is only a temporary pull back in the S&P (or any part of the market) then that certainly is the time to buy. Sort of hard mentally to buy when the market is headed down but can be the better thing to do, especially...

    The G-Fund and Asset Allocation

Two-In-One Of course, its both. Yes, it makes it a challenge to classify and make a conventional AA. Look at a L Fund to see how it is uses. As the G fund does not lose money it strongly lowers volitility, perhaps the main reason to own bonds, at least earlier worklife. I use it as my only...

TSP life-cycle investors won't let go of other funds

Well, I Must Be Doing It Wrong I am 55 and had a 40% G and 20% S, I & C before the L Fund came out. I picked the L2020 and all my new contributions go there as well as a transfer from another IRA into my TSP. The L fund is about 25% of my TSP. I don't see any reason to change my other TSP funds...

    Who is Retiring, or Retired?

Technically I Can Retire Now I became retirement eligible a few months ago. I like my job a lot under my last boss. I would not have considered retiring. New boss, looks OK. But a few years back I had a real jerk, I would have left if I could but family & compensation & retirement made me put...

Direct Rollover from 401K to TSP-Does it makes sense?

Just Moved My Funds I moved or consolidated an old IRA I had into my TSP account. It took longer than I expected, about 2 1/2 weeks from the time the old IRA company (Oppenheimer) sent the check until it showed up in my TSP account. While there are reasons to have an IRA outside of the TSP like...

TSP to open retirement fund management to competitive bids

Real Competition? This may be one case where competition does not improve the process. The TSP already has about the lowest ER (expense rates) than any mutual fund company including Vanguard and Fidelity. As I understand this various mutual funds lobbyed Congress to get this openned up because...

L fund is doing its job

FWIW I Agree The L fund is doing well enough. I see you selected the 2010 L Fund. I am 55 and I selected the 2020 L Fund based on the hope that I would not be withdrawing money until 2020 despite retiring earlier. I do not see a lot of advice on the official TSP site about which L fund to...

To early to get in the L funds?

Yes, The Fund Is Open and Active The L funds are now as open and active as any of the others. The L fund is a great improvement for folks who would have just picked one fund (G, I, S, C or F) and dumped everything there. This is a good "one fund" solution for them. The only decision is which of...
