    Roth TSP update

I am in the 25% bracket and I do think my income will go down a bit in retirement. The reason I am going Roth 100% and pay the taxes now is two fold. The most important reason is I have 20+ years until retirement and I am confidence income rates will increase drasticly. Look at our national...

Is the Roth TSP Right for Me?

I cant wait until the Roth. I am in the 25% bracket so I will be paying a bunch more in taxes on that 17,000 withheld, but it will be worth it since who who knows how high taxes will be when I retiire in 20 years. Over the past 8 years I have been able to roll my IRA into ROTH IRA's so more...

    ROTH TSP Education Materials?

Roth Start Date I called the TSP today and they are planning on starting the Roth on March 29th but may push it back a week. That means you cant elect it until that date, so it would be effective on your paycheck until the end of April.

    Elgallo's Retirement story

I agree the tsp has the best fees. If you are happy with the choices, no need to do anything.

    Elgallo's Retirement story

By the way, make sure you look at the prospectus, it showns the fees that the fund charges. You dont see those seperately, they just lower the earnings. If the fund fee total is 2%. They take 2% and divide it by 365 and charge that amount each day, or divide it by the trading days during a...

    Elgallo's Retirement story

Dont invest with a "trusted financial advisor". That just means they get a cut. I invested in fidelity thru an advisor. Instead of the fidelity, they use the fidelity advisor funds. They invest the same as the same fidelity funds except they have lower returns do to fund fees. I was...

    ROTH TSP Education Materials?

For those of you with kids, here is something to consider. I am in the 25% bracket currently. I will be going part Roth, the reason is the effect on the child tax credit. If your adjusted gross income is above 110,000 you lose approximately 5% of the credit. If your income is 112,o000 you...

    TSP vs. Roth

Why not just use vanguard. Unless you are investing in actively managed funds all companies are the same except for fees. I learned that lession the hard way. I used a broker that bought fidelity plain old funds. I have been paying 1-2.5% fees per year out of the fund earnings. I shopped...

    ROTH TSP Education Materials?

There isnt much to it. Same principal as a ROTH IRA. In our case, they take it out of our checks after tax. Our W-2 isnt reduced by the contibutions. When you pull it out when you retire its tax free. What you have to decide is if the tax rate you pay when you retire will be higher than...

TSP strategy for mid 40's with 20 years till retirement. Anyone? Bueller?

Well, just because the S fund didnt do good in 2011 doesnt mean you should drop it. Take a good look at it year by year. It is the best fund around. I currently am 70% S and 30% C. I am 41 and have about 135,000 in the TSP, about 100K is in the S. The stock market is going to keep rising...
