TSP board to limit interfund transfers

Just mine, far as I know. But there are numerous other ones that can easily be applied to the situation. Over the long run it is time in the market that counts, not timing the market. Glance through one of Bogle's books and you'll get an idea of what the studies say.

TSP board to limit interfund transfers

Thank you for being concerned about my children. I worry about them being cripples from getting hit by a car, not from learning a sensible investing philosophy. Only a fool would believe that buying and holding a set allocation of non-correlating asset classes using low cost index funds is a bad...

TSP board to limit interfund transfers

Hmmm....doesn't look like this recent change will affect my investing strategy negatively at all. In fact, it seems to me that the savings they get from not letting you all trade 20 times a month will be passed on to me with a lower expense ratio. I think I'll send a letter to thank the board...

    Long-term Investment Guide

Mostly because I like to think I have an open mind about market timing and if it can be done profitably anywhere, it would be within the TSP. (The monkey study) Plus there is the fascination that there are so many people ignorant of so much good research about investing in favor of technical...

Weekly Tally - Helpful or Hurtful?

Rowr! You make one little light-hearted comment and everyone gets all hot and bothered. Personally, I think the weekly tallies are kind of silly. Monthly? All right, I'll buy monthly. But weekly? Come on. You don't really believe that a person who did better this week is a more skilled...

Why stop there? Why not a daily tally?

    Uses For Tax-Exempt Pay

I'll only be in the military to make 5 years worth of TSP contributions (4 years of actual service.) But that last year I'll be in a higher tax bracket than I probably will be in retirement. So it probably wouldn't be a great time for a Roth conversion. The other problem is you cannot just...

Making Money in the F Fund

Re: imported post You make money in one of two ways. You either stay the course and earn the yield (if there is no change in interest rates) or you try to time it so you are in the fund when interest rates drop and the value of bonds goes up while avoiding those times when interest rates...

I couldn't stay away, darn it

These two factors are inherently difficult to study. The "Monkey Benchmark" can be adjusted to allow for a more conservative investor, for example by making it twice as likely for the investor to be in the G and F funds than in the others, but deciding which category to put an individual...

I couldn't stay away, darn it

Hey Fabijo, great spreadsheet. I modified it a bit (and corrected an error that kept the monkeys in the G fund waaaay too much) so I could use it to fairly compare y'all against. I then compared 100 monkeys to those of you who kept complete returns in 2005 (can't wait for that 2006 data can...

    More on Market Timing

Well, I'll check back in in a few months or a few years or whenever I get around to checking my account balances again. Until then, have a great time!

    More on Market Timing

Interesting concept. Might I suggest a different three legs to provide a more solid base for your stool. How about maximizing savings, minimizing taxes, and asset allocation (a shifting asset allocation in your case.) Thank Goodness. I'm surprised you think your 2 years on TSPTalk makes...
